JOHN C. HENEGAN
John C. Henegan is a member of Butler Snow LLP, and practices in Ridgeland, Mississippi, with an "AV" rating in Martindale-Hubbell. He represents broadcast, print and entertainment media groups as well as the Mississippi Press Association ("MPA"). In addition to his courtroom and appellate work for media companies, he has led numerous libel and privacy workshops for media firms, university newspapers, and state and national professional organizations, and he is author or co-author of numerous articles published in legal magazines or journals, including the Mississippi section of the Media Law Resource Center’s annual 50-State Survey of Law of Defamation; the MPA's quarterly trade journal, The Fourth Estate; the Fifth Circuit Reporter; and Mississippi Law Journal. He has been listed since 1988 in the Mississippi First Amendment section of every edition of The Best Lawyers In America.
John was graduated with a B.A. in 1972 from the University of Mississippi, majoring in English and Philosophy. He obtained a J.D. with honors, in 1976, from the University of Mississippi Law Center, where he was Editor-In-Chief of the Mississippi Law Journal. After graduation, he served as a law clerk from August of 1976- August of 1977 to Honorable Charles Clark, Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Between March 1, 1981, and December 31, 1983, John was Chief of Staff to Honorable William F. Winter, Governor of the State of Mississippi.
